Work in Progress

16 Dec

I keep thinking about trying to write something on the subject of mercy ministry. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten much further than coming up with some different themes for various chapters. But, here’s a beginning to what I would want to say when I stop being so lazy.

1. Don’t just do something, believe the good news.

2. Don’t only talk about the truth, apply it to your life.

3. Don’t simply give resources or start projects, love people.

4. Don’t start with being radical, begin by being godly.

5. Don’t divide showing mercy from speaking the truth.

6. Don’t ever forget total depravity or the new birth.

7. Don’t think people’s problems are primarily physical, but don’t think physical problems aren’t actual problems.

8. Don’t use mercy to pursue self, show mercy because you are dying to self.

9. Don’t define success using the world’s standards, but by the cross.

10. Don’t think in terms of your best life now, but your best life later.

11. Don’t allow fear to make you move too quickly or to dream too small.

Josh I like the chapter themes. I would start by writing each chapter as a work on its own and then later when all the chapters are written put them together as a unit. Trying to do them all as a single work can seem such a massive task that it stops one from getting down to it. Do not try to please everyone but write what you honestly believe the scriptures clearly point out. Use Jesus as a living example and you cannot go wrong for it is sure that whatever He did was brilliant.

This sounds great, brother! I’d encourage you to begin working on it as you can… 🙂

Wow, great chapter themes. I am already challenged by them, looking forward to hear more if you pursue it.
